The Sin and Rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram
This is a frightful thing to behold. However, time and time again, The Sin and Rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram has thrived in the heart and lives of God’s servants forcing most to end their ministry prematurely and in disgrace.
Look at the situation that happened: Moses had appointed Korah, Dathan and Abiram to be part of the workers in the church, yet they became too familiar, they felt too spiritual since members of the congregation have started calling them “men of God”, “God’s anointed”. They had started seeing God’s hands of grace in their ministrations to people, this led them to begin to feel they are better than Moses their senior pastor, their spiritual father.
They started to challenge all the leadership decisions of the man of God Moses, they even went political within the church, raising about 250 followers to join them in the protest: kicking against the senior pastor, their father in the Lord. They went about campaigning to stop the rule of Moses over the denomination, over the congregation, over the nation, over the ministry and it worked at least 250 people joined them
However, unknown to them that their fledging ministry was about to come to an abrupt disgrace, and a harsh end. They rebelled until their whole lives, ministries, families and possessions were swallowed up by the ground. They vanished never to rise again.
AND THEY GATHERED TOGETHER AGAINST MOSES AND AARON, AND SAID TO THEM [ENOUGH OF YOU!] YOU TAKE TOO MUCH UPON YOURSELVES, SEEING THAT ALL THE CONGREGATION IS HOLY, EVERY ONE OF THEM, AND THE LORD IS AMONG THEM. WHY THEN DO YOU LIFT YOURSELVES UP ABOVE THE ASSEMBLY OF THE LORD? And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face.
Numbers 16:3 – 4. Numbers 16: 1-19, 23-32.
Likewise, I know at least three (3) people I raised in the ministry, appointed to be pastors, and placed to serve alongside me as branch pastors. They got full and felt they have what it takes to be on their own (that is not even a problem) but the way they did it was so rebellious that it took God’s grace for me to stand tall till now.
One of these individuals told me, I’ll leave your ministry and in one year I would have branches all over the city. I begged him not to go, he felt too high, too sure, he even told me that he can’t close what he has started, and he can’t change his mind about a decision he has made. This is over five (5) years he is still struggling to have a local assembly.
Another one challenged me that he was more prophetic than I could ever be, he left me when I needed his assistance the most, and the last I heard from the brother himself, he has left the ministry and he is trying to be a Sunday school teacher in his grandmother’s local assembly. What a shock!
One more left, too hasty knowing I needed him to wait till we get a pastoral replacement over the branch he was sent to pastor. He refused and left, four years later, he is still trying to start. One day, the Lord showed me this scenario and told me, most of these guys have actually ended their ministry prematurely and it will take the grace of God, the mercy of God to come back, that’s if they even know how.
I conclude with what Moses said: Does it seem but a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister to them, And that He has brought you near to Him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you? WOULD YOU SEEK THE PRIESTHOOD ALSO?’
Numbers 16:9-10 (AMPC)
Therefore the sin of Korah, Dathan and Abiram is the sin of rebellion and usurpering authority. This ended their ministry. Don’t let it end you, BEWARE!!!
