From Faithful to Fallen: The Warning in Demas’ Story
What happens when a devoted believer slowly drifts away from their faith? Demas once stood alongside Paul, spreading the gospel, but in the end, he chose the world over Christ. From Faithful to Fallen: The Warning in Demas’ Story is a sobering warning for every Christian. Could the same temptation be pulling you away? Let’s uncover the lessons from Demas’ downfall and how to stay faithful to the end.
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world”. 2 Timothy 4:10.
This is a pity but likewise a sad reality to most pastors or people who claim to have the call of God. It is the sin of forsaking the ministry. It is the sin of loving this present evil world. From Faithful to Fallen: The Warning in Demas’ Story is a two-in-one sin that has stylishly crept into the hearts and minds and churches of pastors and servants of God, to rob them, and drag them subtly away from the service of God.
In reality, things could be hard, the economy could be depressing, things are not looking good. Life honestly is expensive but when has it been easy for anyone, especially those called into ministry? The Apostolic fathers of the first-century church experienced these difficulties both economically, politically and societally even looking through church history and contemporary times most of our fathers in the faith, heroes of the faith entered into ministry and remained in the ministry even at a huge cost and expenses.
Yet, there was or were no options of stepping aside and down for a little while because of the demand of providing for the house and basic necessities and expectations from the family. This, therefore, was a delusion Demas had, the excuse hasn’t changed, and people have stopped doing the work of the ministry in the search of “Daily bread” and meeting up to economic expectations.
However, the Lord sees through all this and warns us to be wary of stepping out, stepping aside or totally abandoning the ministry for earthly responsibilities and demands. Unknown to most, they have given away their ministry on the altar of what to eat, what to drink, where to live, the schooling of their children and the welfare of their wives and husband. They traded away their ministry.
I knew one Evangelist who told me that whilst he was looking for how to raise funds for his house rent, he got an idea to sell off his Evangelism sound system, a speaker and microphone that he uses on the street which is as loud as possible to reach as many people as possible. He immediately discerned the voice of Satan subtly trying to get him to trade off his Evangelistic ministry for a few thousands of naira. Hallelujah, he caught the devil’s trick and he continues to be in the ministry. Likewise, you dear servant of God, do not forsake your ministry, do not trade away your ministry for some earthly concerns that might peradventure persist after you have traded away your calling and ministry. The Lord helps you.
