Contend In And Through Persistent
“Now Elisha [previously] had become ill of ” the illness of which he died. And Jehoash king of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel and the horsemen of it! [II Kings 2:12.] And Elisha said to him, Take bow and arrows. And he took bow and arrows. And he said to the king of Israel, Put your hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it, and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands. And he said, Open the window to the east. And he opened it.
Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria. For you shall smite the Syrians in Aphek till you have destroyed them. Then he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, Strike on the ground. And he struck three times and stopped. AND THE MAN OF GOD WAS ANGRY WITH HIM AND SAID, YOU SHOULD HAVE STRUCK FIVE OR SIX TIMES; THEN YOU WOULD HAVE STRUCK DOWN SYRIA UNTIL YOU HAD DESTROYED IT. BUT NOW YOU SHALL STRIKE SYRIA DOWN ONLY THREE TIMES.”
2 Kings 13:14-19 (AMPC)
When it comes to contending, we probably should consider what that word means, to apply ourselves to engaging its essence. TO CONTEND MEANS ;
• To strive or vie in a contest or rivalry or against difficulties.
• To compete against somebody to gain something.
• To struggle in opposite: to contend with the enemy for control.
• The etymology for the word contend is; to stretch, extend and strive after.
The idea I get from this definition is, that if you are ever to be on top and not beneath, then you cannot afford not to fight in some way for it, if you will ever see all the prophetic words spoken over you come to pass in your lifetime, then contending shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t expect victory placed on your laps just because you claim you heard from God, WHATEVER WILL BE, WILL NOT BE. Even Jesus contended with the devil and prevailed. FIGHT TO WIN, Contend In And Through Persistent.
Coming back to our point: Persistence. The dictionary defines the word Persistence as:
• The quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people.
• The ability to stick with something
• The gut to continue to try to do something despite difficulties, especially when other people are against you and think that you are being annoying or unreasonable.
• Other synonyms for persistence are:
Ø Endurance
Ø Grit
Ø Perseverance
Ø Stamina
Ø Tenacity
Ø Constancy
Ø Doggedness
Ø Follow-through.
In times like this, perseverance despite of the opposition will ultimately get you the victory. Imagine if the king had just continued to strike the ground with the arrow, not minding the stress, and the damage it could make on the weapon, he just continued, that act would ultimately give him the victory. In this warfare you have chosen to engage in, you must be determined to follow-through until your victory is secured, Contend In And Through Persistent.
You must have the stamina, to look discouragement in the face and walk through it untouched
You must be willing to stick to your convictions and spiritual leading until you possess that territory
You must learn to continue even though the results seem to be showing a massive failure
You must be ready to look past those who think you are being unreasonable or simply annoying.
Most problems and challenges you will have and face will usually not go away without a sense of persistence, therefore you must possess grit and a strong level of doggedness added with a high dose of constancy, Contend In And Through Persistent. I repeat the victory is not in how many blows or punches you give, but who’s the last man standing!
I remember as I started to contend with the strong man in battle, the breakthrough came for us in supernatural ways: we were able for the first time to sell our books to South Africans, we not only got money, but we also received heartwarming relationships, these were purely people who were blessed by buying my books, reading them ministered to their hearts.
