Godly Character Matters More Than Anointing In Ministry
“Godly Character Matters More Than Anointing In Ministry, Anointing can open doors, but only godly characters will keep them open. In ministry, talent and spiritual gifts may attract attention, but it’s integrity that sustains true impact. So, what truly defines a lasting ministry — anointing or character?”
“This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, TEMPERATE, SOBER-MINDED, OF GOOD BEHAVIOR, HOSPITABLE, ABLE TO TEACH; NOT GIVEN TO WINE, NOT VIOLENT, NOT GREEDY FOR MONEY, BUT GENTLE, NOT QUARRELSOME, NOT COVETOUS;”
I Timothy 3:1-3 NKJV
When it comes to the ministry Godly Character Matters More Than Anointing, it’s more of a character issue than anything else. To walk worthy of your calling is to have a good character.
Sometimes it’s hard to have a good character amid trouble. However, that’s why the qualification for ministry is first character. After all is said and done, what will last the test of time is:
• It’s not much of what you say, but how you say it.
• It’s not much of what you do, but how you do what you do.
• It’s not much of what you think, but whether you think the right way.
Character is your trademark.
Character is your witness.
Character is your forerunner.
Character is your shield in the battle of opposition.
Character is your testimony when you are not there to defend yourself.
Character is your backup plan when all else fails.
However, it’s more about how a person lives out the life of Christ through himself. Think about it.
“So I, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to you to LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF THE CALLING TO WHICH YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED [THAT IS, TO LIVE A LIFE THAT EXHIBITS GODLY CHARACTER, MORAL COURAGE, PERSONAL INTEGRITY, AND MATURE BEHAVIOR—A LIFE THAT EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO GOD FOR YOUR SALVATION], WITH ALL HUMILITY [FORSAKING SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS], AND GENTLENESS [MAINTAINING SELF-CONTROL], WITH PATIENCE, BEARING WITH ONE ANOTHER IN [UNSELFISH] LOVE. MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP THE ONENESS OF THE SPIRIT IN THE BOND OF PEACE [EACH INDIVIDUAL WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE THE WHOLE SUCCESSFUL].”
Ephesians 4:1-3 AMP
Here we see the baseline for ministry. And as important as anointing is, character is the litmus test for ministry. It seems to me that we have been ill-informed that all we need is anointing, yet:
Anointing will bring the crowd; character keeps them. Anointing will bring the fanatics; character will keep the disciples. Anointing will bring divine helpers; character will enable them to continue helping.
Godly Character Matters More Than Anointing, Only character enables people to stay with you for a lifetime.
It’s only character that thwarts the schemes of the enemy against you and your ministry.
Ministry is such a sensitive and fragile work, and anointing is not suited to sustain it for a lifetime. As I have had the privilege of being in ministry for over 14 years, I have found out that the death of many ministries is not the absence of anointing, but a lack of strong character.
Practically, no organization is as big on character as a ministry is. There is an expectation that if a man claims to be a servant of God, there are certain standards expected of him. For example, if you hear that a politician came to town and before he left town, he had slept with some people’s wives, generally, we are not too big on politicians having character. We would say, “That’s how they all are,” and we would go ahead to vote for them once again in the next election.
However, if you see a man who claims to be a servant of God, yet you notice the shadow of a woman who is not his wife hugging him, you will say, “Kia, this guy is fake,” and the possibility of you attending his meetings is likely nonexistent. Why? Because we already have an expectation of a person who says he is a Servant of God.
Ministry is a practice that depends on character. Character is a determinant of ministry.
That you know how to preach eloquently does not qualify you for ministry.
Ministry is more character-related.
Character is like a fruit: it is cultivated.
Make up your mind today to develop Godly character, put accountability check in place.
The Lord enable you to birth Godly character that qualifies you for his work in Jesus name.
