The Cost Of Disobedience
Solomon had everything—wisdom, wealth, and the favor of God. Yet, he experienced The cost of disobedience, his story ended in a downfall not because of a lack of knowledge, but because of disobedience. He compromised with sin, allowed his heart to drift, and paid a heavy price. Could the same danger be lurking in your life? Let’s uncover the lessons from Solomon’s fall and the true cost of turning away from God’s commands.
Solomon loved Pharaoh’s daughter and many other foreign women. Those women were Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites.
THE LORD HAD WARNED THE ISRAELITES ABOUT THESE NATIONS. HE SAID, ‘YOU MUST NOT MARRY PEOPLE FROM THESE NATIONS. IF YOU DO, THEY WILL CAUSE YOU TO WORSHIP THEIR OWN GODS.’ BUT SOLOMON DID LOVE THESE FOREIGN WOMEN AND HE MARRIED THEM.
“SO THE LORD BECAME ANGRY WITH SOLOMON. Solomon had turned away from the Lord, Israel’s God, who had appeared to Solomon twice. He had warned Solomon that he must not serve other gods. But Solomon did not obey the Lord’s command.
SO THE LORD SAID TO SOLOMON, ‘I see the things that you have chosen to do. YOU HAVE NOT OBEYED MY COVENANT and the laws that I commanded you to obey. SO I WILL TAKE THE KINGDOM AWAY FROM YOU. ONE OF YOUR SERVANTS WILL RULE THE KINGDOM INSTEAD OF YOU.
1 Kings 11:1-2 and 9-11 (Easy English)
The sin of Solomon was the sin of marrying the wrong spouse. This is noteworthy. If you indeed fear and honor God. If you indeed esteem his call on your life, if you indeed appreciate his relationship with you. You will not do anything that could truncate or jeopardize this great call, ministry and relationship that you have with God.
God sees this as an INSULTING SIN. He had already warned Solomon to be careful of the kind of wife he marries if he intends to continue to have a faithful and holy relationship with him, if he intends to have a long-lasting ministry. He must not marry for beauty or for sexual passion sake, he must not even marry for convenience sake neither should he marry for posterity sake alone In order to avoid the cost of disobedience and fulfill his ministry.
His choice of spouse must be guided by his consecration, dedication, calling, ministry and relationship with the one true God. Once Solomon failed this lifetime test, he gradually backslides and turns his attention from God’s service to idol worship, spending his time and resources on empowering falsehood, worldliness and satanism. Rather than building the house of God and empowering missionaries to go around the world, funding channels that would take the gospel and the training of God’s people to needed areas.
Solomon failed in all these by making a fatal mistake which lead to The cost of disobedience, some of you reading this could have made, committing a grievous sin that some of you reading this are regretting and repenting from. For some of you who haven’t tied the knot, this is a time for sober reflection and wise choosing. Avoid this sin by all means possible, else, your ministry will be taken from you and given to another and your calling suspended, ruined and maybe disgraced, left in apathy and misery. Think about it.
