“Ministry isn’t just a spiritual assignment—it’s an emotional and mental battlefield, Strong Minds For Strong ministry. Without inner strength, burnout, discouragement, and self-doubt can take over. Discover why mental resilience is not optional for effective, long-term ministry.”
“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace WHOSE MIND [BOTH ITS INCLINATION AND ITS CHARACTER] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.” Isaiah 26:3 AMPC
When it comes to emotional and mental stability in ministry, it is imperative that you ensure you are not in any way troubled mentally and emotionally.
I remember some years back, I had just heard the news on TV, mentioning how the cost of some things had hiked through the roof. It was like suddenly fear gripped me. The more I thought about it, the more I imagined an apocalyptic Nigeria, where trouble was looming and what would happen to me and my loved ones if a war broke out in the country. Would we be able to take a fight to any part of the world of our choosing? This fear was so intense that I actually started having stomach upsets.
I believe that’s how events surrounding us could torment our minds and emotions.
I also believe, based on what I have seen, that toxic members or individuals in your life could cause a lot of stress to you mentally and emotionally.
I got to a point in my life and ministry where I highlighted all the toxic, difficult, and troublesome people around me, and one after the other, I started giving them the red card. It was difficult, though, but it was as though I was going to burst out of the accumulated pressure of years in the building. I can tell you this for free: once you are mentally and emotionally affected, you behave irrationally, and at that point, you become a danger to your loved ones, Strong Minds For Strong ministry
You could begin to systematically destroy all the things you were building.
The mental wellness of a minister is a priority. I know you would want to spiritualize everything, but my friend,
You are tired.
You are fatigued.
You are stressed out.
You are mentally affected.
You have been wounded.
You need healing.
You need a serene environment.
You need space to clear your mind.
You need rejuvenating.
You have watered others for years; now, you too need to be watered. Do not ignore the warning signs.
You know, soldiers who have fought in some kind of war need some form of counseling. They might think they are alright, but that’s far from the truth. They have been affected by many deaths they have seen, they have been affected by the bombs, destruction, isolation, loneliness, and on and on. If they don’t get checked, if they don’t get treated, if they are not put in some form of monitoring and counseling, they might have come back as heroes, but they could kill those who they have a responsibility to protect, all because they have been traumatized and were not given adequate attention or treatment. Likewise, Jesus wants you, His servant, to retreat for a while. Strong Minds For Strong ministry
